Restoration and renovation

October and November have been and continue to be full of work being done on the house. First the balcony is being fixed (stripped right back and then reseated and painted). This means that we have had scaffolding up for a considerable period of time (it is still up), so we got to get a good view of the garden and surroundings. While the scaffolding was up we have also had all but one of the chimneys closed off to stop draughts. Other work that has been done is insulating the loft (the energy companies give these grants so we got the whole lot done for £95 I couldnt believe it! Dave (pete's brother Dave) has been coming a couple of days for a good few weeks now to do work around the house: stripping out old heating pipes, insulating the attic bedroom (the company wouldnt do this), boarding the loft space above Vincent's room and cutting a door into the loft space. we couldnt have done without him. George and the team have been busy for 5 weeks solid now disconnecting the old heating pipes and radiators and connecting in new pipe (I found a place to get reclaimed cast iron radiators to the size we needed and so they arrived 2 weeks ago and are now all connected up) and we have had the old radiators sandblasted and they are going to be reconnected in different rooms. Basically the only room that had a big enough radiator to heat the room was Verity's! Hopefully we'll get most of the heating connected by the end of November.

Notice the lovely tiles Pete has discovered underneath the horrible orange wall paper in the breakfast room.

The picture of the car is how George and James were trying to get the joint undone on a pipe... they have been tricky! See also James doing work on the pipes in the very small space under the floors!
