It was great for Vincent to spend lots of time with his Nanny and GrandPat (Badbat!) and we got to see lots of the boys as well so that was nice. They love Vincent and try and hug and kiss him all the time, which he responds to by hitting them or sometimes biting them... oh dear! We did try and say that if they left him alone he would probably come to them in the end (Bradley did get a couple of spontaneous hugs) but it was too difficult for them to leave him! I have got some lovely photos of Finlay and Vincent playing very nicely in the kitchen, while Uncle Peter was writing a computer programme with Bradley and Antony.
On Saturday evening we went round to Dave's new house in Stock - it's a lovely 2 bedroom cottage with loads of garden and land, on which Dave plans to grow loads of dahlias and veg. The plan was to have fireworks-Vincent's first fireworks, but unexpectedly Vincent was very scared of them and started crying and saying 'Bye Bye' every time one of them went off. He had looked at fireworks in the sky out of his bedroom window around Guy Fawkes night and seemed fine but maybe they were just too close and too noisy when they were just in the garden.
Saturday in the day we went to London for the DC reunion. It was really well attended this year.. Roger and Karen Farringdon (History and Geography teachers from my 1st-3rd year), Janine and Ian Clayton, Maggie and Rachel Griffiths, the Brooks... mmm... who else? Not many ex-students there that I knew (of course Mike Deelman, and Zeenat Noorani was there) but there seemed to be lots that Stephen knew, and we left him and Lauren partying away... children had to be out at 6pm so we had to get back anyway.
I was absolutely knackered on Sunday... we made the big mistake of deciding to take the buggy with us to London... we had been umming and ahhing about it and then decided in the end to take it so Vincent could nap in it, but in hindsight we should have just put him to sleep on a pile of coats on the floor or on a sofa because it was an absolute nightmare trying to get around on the tube. Because Pete had to carry the buggy, I had to carry Vincent.. up and down countless flights of stairs, and my body just can't take my own additional weight plus the 15kgs of him! I was so achy- back, pelvis and arms. I slept until 1130 on Sunday morning and then had to have another sleep in the afternoon! Dave brought the boys around in the afternoon, and we got to see Claire as well later on. When we were having tea, Finlay said something that just set me off on one of my hysterical laughing fits. Claire was talking about how Finlay was probably the smallest boy in his class and how the girls all look after him and then she said 'You like the girls don't you Finlay', and with all earnestness, Finlay replied 'Yes, and I like prawns.' Oh I did crack up, it's even making me laugh as I type! Out of the mouths of babes eh.
And so Monday morning we headed back to Coventry... eee it's cold!
And a big thought for Bill Nelson today: his funeral was at 930 this morning.
