Weekend in Manchester

Well thank goodness that there have been no more major calamities and I do not seem to have suffered any long term effects of falling in the pond!

Janet and Pat came to stay on Wednesday (12th) night, on their way up to Blackpool for the heats of the Pontins singing competition which Pat won during the summer. We haven't yet heard how it all went. Clyde also came to stay from that night (he has his annual show at the NEC) so it was a busy house. Unfortunately I wasn't a great host as I had this research proposal which had to be in 4pm on Thursday but thankfully it all went off on time. just have to keep fingers crossed for it now.

On Thursday Helena the mid wife came around. All fine with bloods and urine sample etc, and baby measuring a little small by fundus measurement, but these measurements are not very exact at this stage anyway. She was first of all convinced that this little one was still breech with head up on the right top of my belly, but then when she tried to find the heart beat, after quite a long while to no avail with the baby kicking and kicking all the time, she said that she would just try and put the sonicaid down low on the left and lo and behold a heartbeat.... so.... perhaps that head was actually a bony bottom!! A few more minutes of palpation later and Helena thinks that there was some presenting part in my pelvis at that moment, which might be why the baby was measuring small. However all in all she wasn't able to be that conclusive, Helena said it is so hard at this stage to really tell the bits conclusively, but we should get a better idea over the next few weeks and the baby gets bigger. Anyway, it was a little glimmer of hope that she might not be breech after all!

On Friday we drove up after lunch to Manchester to visit Stephen and Lauren. It was great to see them and we had a really lovely relaxing weekend.

Their flat is really nice and bless them they gave up their room for us. A big revelation of the weekend is that Stephen can make the most delicious roast potatoes.... now there's a skill! Vincent was on very good form and kept us all amused: he has the Greene boy knack of finding balls in any location (although we did have to try and hide the golf ball he found... not the greatest thing to have thrown around the room!). On Saturday we walked into the centre of Manchester (no sign of the credit crunch there -it was packed!). It was a good walk and not really that far but I think I did overdo it a bit... I was knackered!

On Sunday we drove back home just before midday and were home by half past one... great journey. Later on we had a lovely Sunday dinner at Linda and Dave's.... double portions of steam pudding for me.

Monday morning I went to the drop in antenatal class ran by Cov NCT and joined the bumps and babies for a coffee and a biscuit. Then it was back home to work except for our usual lunchtime outing to Zafiris.

On Thursday Pete and Vincent were booked in with James my hairdresser. Vincent for a trim all over just to get rid of wispy ends and hair in his eyes. Pete had his first haircut at a hairdressers since he was five (a crew cut)... he was a bit scared! James just gave Pete's hair an overall trim so it was nothing drastic but he is looking a bit less bouffanty and Justin Lee Collins like now which is no bad thing!

Today... Friday we have had an exciting day. Well first up, we looked around another house just around the corner. A real find... massive, with all original Edwardian features... oak panelling, cornices etc and a beautiful garden. It is in fact the house of our dreams, but would be a really big project over a number of years as it hasn't been touched for 50 years, but nevertheless has been very very well looked after so is not a wreck by any means. So, do we do the extension or go for a move.... oh decisions decisions...

Now getting ready to go up the theatre for Chris' 30th birthday, so a late night for Vincent tonight.
