Holidaying in Indonesia

Well here goes, we have had a fabulous holiday in Indonesia and it is well past time that I put up some photos.

First we had two weeks in Jakarta with Kathryn, Andrew and the girls. Vincent and Verity were great on the 20hour journey: we only had a half hour tantrum on the way out and nothing on the way back... couldnt have asked for better.

The two weeks in Jakarta was spent swimming in the pool in the campus complex, eating out in some lovely places, watching bands at an outside pub/restaurant venue, walking around malls, going to an aquarium, on a train around a place called Tamam Mini Indonesia and Kathryn treated me to a fantastic massage- bliss. They live on the school campus and so can use the lovely school pool and play park etc.

It was great to see Kathryn, Andrew and the girls and good as well that we were there when they were on holiday. Annalise and Juliette kindly gave up their bedroom for us and it meant we had their super king size bed... we could get used to this... it means that four of you fit perfectly well in it! Might have to consider upgrading...

OUT AND ABOUT IN JAKARTA

This included us making a trip to the old town and a very beautiful Art deco building, Cafe Batavia where we spent a very pleasant afternoon. A lot of Jakarta life seems to revolve around the shopping malls which range from higgledy piggledy places like Cempaka Mas where we bought glasses (mine were £33 all in with frames and lenses, a bit different to the £350 I usually have to spend and so I bought 3 pairs!. We must have made the shop assistant's day, although he didnt take a deposit so must have been a bit worried we wouldnt come back for them!)to the very upmarket like Kelapa Gading. At Kelapa Gading mall which is only a 10 minute walk from Kathryn and Andrew's, they have a Jungle Safari ball park where you can leave the children and go off and do your shopping and then there are mechanical animals or cars for the children to ride on afterwards. Vincent loved his car.

AT THE WATER BOOM PARK

I didnt get to go to the water park as I felt terrible... think I had a bit of the stomach bug Andrew had got but luckily it was just cramps not sickness. Anyway, I stayed at home while Vincent, Pete, Stephen and Lauren went to the park. Note that Vincent had to wear Juliette's pink and purple costume because for the life of us we couldnt find his... Kathryn and Andrew have two maids, who clean up and wash and iron everything, almost all before you get up... it's miraculous! They had put Vincent's trunks and swim nappy in the wash!

On the 4th we got a flight to Bali for 6 days spent with Denis and Wendy.Stephen and Lauren also came to Bali and so we met up with them a couple of times while we were there, including going out for a fabulous Indonesian meal at a place called Bumbu Bali, wonderful, but so so hot with no air conditioning. We had a fabulous villa up in the hills of Nusa Dua resort. Fantastic breezy location given that the weather wa shot, hot, hot and with a lovely pool just for us and just a great place to relax. When we wanted to go down to the beach we drove down and after having a meal at the Westin Hotel, could use their stretch of beach... lovely.
